Medical emergencies are always urgent, and can present a confusing time for patients. Before a medical emergency presents itself, remember that your plan offers safeguards during these important times.
BEST Life offers case management services to help ensure that you receive appropriate medical attention.
If you do need medical attention that results in a(n) inpatient (hospital) admission (call within 24-48 hours of admission), outpatient surgery procedure, MRI, CAT Scan, PET Scan, nuclear imaging or transplant, then a Pre-certification is required.
Pre-certification (also known as case management) is a process we use to make sure that you and your enrolled dependents receive the care that is necessary and appropriate for your circumstance. With the increasing cost of hospitalization and health care, no one can afford unnecessary or wasteful medical costs.
Pre-certification does not affect your freedom to choose your own physician or hospital. It is just our way of monitoring the decisions and recommendations your doctor makes.
Most of the time, doctors will file a Pre-certification on your behalf, but you can also call the phone number provided on the back of your ID cards to talk to a Registered Nurse, ask questions about the Precertification program, and to get a Pre-certification.
To request a Pre-certification, please call the phone number on the back of your ID card.
