BEST Life and Health Insurance Company was originally established on November 28, 1962 as Westgate Life Insurance Company. In 1979, Westgage was renamed BEST Life Assurance Company of California, conducting business under California domestication until 1999. In the year 2000, the name BEST Life and Health Insurance Company was finally adopted.

In 1970, BEST Plans was established and is currently celebrating its 40th anniversary.

BEST Life and Health Insurance Company is a member of the Texas Association of Life & Health Insurers and is a Texas domiciled life and health insurer. BEST Life writes business in 37 states.
